Pollen allergy, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, is an allergic reaction to pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. When an individual with a pollen allergy inhales pollen, their immune system overreacts and produces antibodies that trigger the release of histamine and other chemicals in the body. These chemicals cause the symptoms of the allergic reaction, including runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy and watery eyes, and sometimes coughing and wheezing.
