Pet allergy is an allergic reaction to proteins found in the skin cells, saliva, or urine of animals, most commonly cats and dogs. When a person with a pet allergy comes into contact with these proteins, their immune system produces antibodies that trigger the release of histamine and other chemicals in the body, causing symptoms such as sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, and skin rashes.
