Food Allergies

Food allergies are a type of adverse immune reaction to specific foods that are typically harmless to most people. In individuals with food allergies, the immune system mistakenly identifies certain proteins in food as harmful and triggers an immune response. This response can range from mild symptoms, such as hives or itching, to more severe symptoms, such as anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that can cause difficulty breathing and low blood pressure.
