Cough-Variant Asthma

Cough-Variant Asthma

Cough-variant asthma (CVA) is a type of asthma in which the primary symptom is a persistent cough that is not productive of mucus or phlegm. CVA is caused by airway inflammation and hyperreactivity, which can be triggered by environmental factors such as allergens, viral infections, and cold air. The cough associated with CVA is typically worse at night or in the early morning and may be triggered by exercise, laughter, or exposure to irritants such as smoke or perfume.
